Celebrating Détroit's French History!
WELCOME!
Bienvenue and welcome to Rendez-vous Détroit! We’re so excited that you are visiting our website and hope you’ll become a regular! We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of celebrating our French heritage, the unique and special French history of Détroit and increasing the public’s awareness and knowledge of the contributions made by the French during the early settlement of the Great Lakes Region.
The first Rendez-vous was held at Ste. Anne de Détroit in 2017, appropriate since Ste. Anne’s was founded by Cadillac in 1701 and is the ancestral church of the descendants of the early French settlers of Détroit. Subsequent Rendez-vous have been held at Historic Fort Wayne in Détroit and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle in Détroit.
The common thread weaving all the Rendez-vous together was the contagious spirit of joie de vivre, authentic, toe-tapping French and French Canadian music and dancing, French cuisine, heritage and genealogy exhibits, fun and games for children and historical presenters who brought 18th century Détroit to life.
If you happen to be a descendant of the early Détroit French settlers, French Canadian or have French ancestry or are simply a history buff interested in early Détroit area history, you’ve come to the right place! Bienvenue et welcome au Rendez-vous Détroit. Ca nous donne grand plaisir que vous visitez notre site sur l’internet web. Nous espérons que vous visiterez souvent ce site souvent. Nous sommes une organisation sans but lucratif établie sous-section 501(c)(3). Notre mission est de mettre en évidence et de valoriser le patrimoine français du détroit afin d’aider sa renaissance au 21e siècle.
Notre premier Rendez-vous a eu lieu en 2017 à l’église Sainte Anne de Détroit fondée 1701 par Antoine Laumet sieur de Cadillac. Elle est l’église ancestrale des descendants des premiers habitants français du détroit. Les Rendez-vous suivants ont eu lieu au vieux Fort Wayne et au musée Dossin situé sur Belle Isle (autrefois l’Ile aux Cochons).
Le fil conducteur qui liait tous les Rendez-vous ensemble était l’esprit contagieux de la joie de vivre, la musique, la danse et la cuisine françaises et franco-canadiennes, la cuisine française, les expositions sur l’héritage , la généalogie, les amusements, les jeux pour enfants, les reconstitueurs qui rappellent à la vie du détroit au 18e siècle.
